Soft tissue laser gum therapy may be considered if a patient is diagnosed with gum disease characterized by a large amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth. If the treatment is selected, our periodontist will use the soft tissue laser to target the inflamed tissues with a highly concentrated beam of light. The laser can very efficiently remove the tissue in question without affecting the rest of the mouth. Thanks to the energy from the laser, any blood vessels that become exposed over the course of the treatment are immediately cauterized. The result is that there is little to no bleeding or swelling once the treatment is complete, and the patient won’t have to wait as long for their mouth to recover.
No treatment is suitable for every patient. Before we can start planning soft tissue laser gum therapy for you, you will need to schedule a consultation with our periodontist. A decision can be reached once we have determined how severe your gum disease in. Laser therapy is most effective for patients with mild to moderate gum disease.
